Ngoc Anh & Josh :: The State Room Boston, Ma

August 30th, 2012 | Weddings

Ngoc Anh & Josh have one of those tragic but romantic love stories!! As Ngoc wrote it “Tragedy strikes and love develops”. Clearly a fan of love stories seeing as my life is surrounded by them weekly – but this is a unique one! The 1st time I met Ngoc & Josh at The State Room I asked  how they met and then got this story …” My parents about three years ago had an awful housefire and lost the majority of their home along with sentimental items such as family photos, videos and baby things. Well as luck would have it, Josh was one of the first at the scene of the fire along with the fire department(I was in Nantucket preparing for a birthday weekend with the ladies). Just a quick background on Joshua, he’s a public adjuster that represents you, the client, when a loss has been suffered. My parents were hesitant to make any logical decision at this point so they left the decision to handle the loss solely on me to make the decision for them. Charming and loaded with a sense of humor, we hired Josh and his company to represent us in handling the claim. Long story short, three years later my parents live in this beautiful new home and anticipating the marriage of their daughter and soon-to-be son in law. When life throws you lemons, make lemonade.” Now the only thing missing from this wedding was the lemonade.. but perhaps the yellow gowns can be symbolic?! Take a peak at this beautiful 6.30.12 event…

Ngoc. Lazaro dress, Valentino Shoes

Q. The Bridesmaids Wore

Ngoc. Melissa Sweet by Priscilla of Boston

Q. The Invitations

Ngoc. The invitations were printed by Invitation Only by Laura Van Da Graff out of Dallas Texas! We used metallic grey, pale yellow and ivory.

Q. Colors / Themes of the day

Ngoc. The theme was more of a modern and slick look using twigs and branches to create a feng shui feel in the room. I love orchids (especially hot pink ones) so we had orchids hanging off the branches along with candles. The color were metallic gray, hot pink and silver. The bridesmaids were in canary yellow dresses, and our amazing florist was able to incoroporate pink orchids in their sleek bouquet of white calla lilies.

Q. Finish this sentence: “One thing I learned from my wedding planning…”

Ngoc. I am so happy that it was an enjoyable experience for the two of us but I am soooo relieved that I get to enjoy a married life with my husband!

Q. What was your inspiration behind your wedding? Can be anything from a color palette to
a location, from a memory to a dress/bouquet/shoes…anything! What motivated you and
most influenced your decisions?

Ngoc. Style me Pretty – I told my planner I wanted to be on the site!!  We fell in love w/ the location after attending a charity event the month before we got in engaged. We knew it was the only place we would ever agree on to get married.

Bethany & Rob :: Oceancliff Resort, Newport RI

August 24th, 2012 | Weddings

COLOR-COLOR-COLOR!!! Whats one of the 2012 colors this year?? Coral.. which was among the many colors that helped create this amazing sunset palette! Orange, coral, yellow, lime, greens, teal & blues… I was in heaven!!! From the contrasting orange bouquets against the blue gowns to the sweets display.. and all the modern preppy patterns .. you just have to visually take this one in please! Beathany – THANK YOU for inviting us to play on your day!!

Check out these bouquets by Flowers by Semia!! ..and from the bride “The flowers were insanely gorgeous. The mix of oranges in the bridesmaids’ bouquets popped against their teal dresses, and the flowers at the ceremony site far exceeded any expectations. The biggest surprise was the arrangement on the table with the escort cards. I’ve never seen such interesting flowers with so much texture!”

…and how did they keep Bethany’s gown spotless while touring Newport on a trolley? “To prevent spills, one of the new Moms gave the bride and groom a couple of unopened sippy cups.” Oh how cute that was!

Q. Finish this sentence: “One thing I learned from my wedding planning…”

Bethany. “is to enlist the groom’s help! Seriously, I had the most helpful groom in the entire world. My work schedule went a little haywire for the 3 weeks leading up to the week of the wedding and I was working about 100 hours/week. Rob stepped right up and took care of every single detail that he had the ability to help with. Was he going to write my vows or pick out the paper to mat the grandparent stories? Probably not. But, he made appointments, spoke with the venue, AND dealt with a very nervous future mother-in-law. I would give this wedding coordinator an A+.”

Q. The Wedding Cake

Bethany. We opted for a mini wedding cake so that we could do the ceremonial cake-cutting, but the main desserts consisted of many kinds of cupcakes and a full confections table and candy bar, by Sweet Indulgence. Everyone was talking about how beautiful the display was and how delicious the cake pops and other goodies were. LOVED!

Q. What was your favorite moment or aspect of the day?

Bethany. “Surprisingly, the best part of the entire day was the ceremony. We wrote the ceremony, including the vows, ourselves, and at some points I was cursing myself for taking on such a huge responsibility. However, it all paid off in spades. The ceremony had so much meaning and we both felt like we were the only 2 people there (what 170 people staring at us the entire time? Didn’t see them!) At one point when I was reading my vows, the guests laughed (at the appropriate time, thankfully), and I almost jumped in surprise because I forgot they were there!”

Oh how i love getting notes from our brides !!!

Bethany wrote “Kristin and Jared, what can I say? You guys were incredible to work with! You did a phenomenal job keeping in line a restless group of groomsmen on a pretty hot and bright summer afternoon as we took photos in Newport. You also handled some minor potential family conflict during formals like a pro – I might hit you up for some mediation advice in the future (just kidding, of course!). You even made me feel like a slightly sane person when responding to my panicked e-mails before the event when it looked like there was a chance a rain. So, while I love your work that I’ve seen for other weddings and really can’t wait to see all of the pictures from my own, your professionalism and interpersonal skills only help to propel you to far ahead of the pack. Thanks so much for everything, and I really look forward to seeing all of the photos!!”

Andrea & Steve :: Boston Harbor Hotel Boston, MA

August 1st, 2012 | Weddings

Andrea and Steve met me on Martha’s Vineyard last fall for a playful afternoon of shooting for their engagement session.. I always love this time as I get to hear all the details of their relationship and really see how they interact and react to one another :) Andrea will go down as one of my favorite brides this season.. as she emailed me months prior to the event to let me know they were declaring their ceremony “unplugged” not allowing phones, pictures or video other then their professionals… OH MY!!! A ceremony I didn’t have to struggle watching iPhones pop out in the aisle! LOVE YOU ANDREA!!!!!

Sweet Guest tree…but WAIT check out the BLACK dance floor below!

Some venues have a wooden dance floor.. but adding such a contrasting & dramatic element really makes & made a statement!!

I was just in a consultation this morning discussing how I LOVE when couples do the “family frames” display at events showcasing their parents own wedding images and/or grandparents.. oh the styles we can laugh at now but just love seeing how the times change and knowing perhaps one day one of our images will be on that piano too for generations to enjoy.. knowing Andrea’s classic taste she’s safe from any laughs too!!

I send out multiple “surveys” to client through the planning process and one of my favorites is the initial one asking what the basic plans are so far. I’m always amused reading these the day of the actual events and then seeing what changes.. in Andrea’s case, she knew what she wanted!

Q. We’d love to know more about your wedding plans, especially what you’re doing to make your wedding special or unique for you. Tell us what you envision your ideal wedding to be like. We love details, so don’t by shy!

Andrea. We are having a formal city wedding in Boston. I’ve had my eye on the Boston Harbor Hotel for years….my fiance and I live in the North End of Boston and we frequently walk along the waterfront in the summer. We usually pass by the Boston Harbor Hotel and I ALWAYS have to look through the window at the wedding being set up inside. I love the reception venue because it has a water view as well as a city view. I’m in love with the rotunda for cocktails – city and water view.

I’m hoping to have a formal, yet modern style to the wedding. I imagine navy pintuck linens with silver chiavari chairs and white flowers. I would love to do uplighting and have a black dance floor, but we’ll see if thats in the budget!
