Tiffany & Gregory :: Castle Hill Inn Newport, RI

June 11th, 2013 | Weddings

It takes a rainy day to get a shot at Castle Hill Inn with empty Adirondack chairs..so there are some benefits besides the belief that rain brings good luck on your wedding day! In which case Tiffany & Greg are the luckiest couple seeing as it poured & drizzled the entire day…but thankfully Tiffany was AMAZING and just smiled and let us PLAY! Straight away you can see Tiffany has a GOREGOUS gown on .. very Art Deco era… which lends perfectly to the style of their event as Tiffany wrote “The wedding design stemmed from the beautiful 1920s inspired engagement ring that Greg gave me. I’ve always been a big fan of history, the Edwardian era, and the Great Gatsby so the theme slowly became a jumble of all that. I took this inspiration with a grain of salt because I didn’t want it to look like a theme costume party. However, it was really important to me that when I look at these pictures 50 years down the road that it had a romantic-vintage feel without being too trendy and outdated. The horror of 80s puffy sleeve dresses plagued me throughout the planning process. The colors were the hardest part to pin down. While I love color and have been a bridesmaid a few times, I didn’t want my girls to buy a dress in a color they would never wear again. Scoping all my favorite blogs like Style Me Pretty and Ruffled, I really liked the idea of neutral dresses with colorful flowers. So grey became my base and added my favorite color lavender as well as ivory, pewter, and antique gold in the mix.” Through the planning process I’ll admit I became myself pretty obsessed with this “Art Deco” style event and anything I could pin I was pinning and just dreaming of what Tiffany was going to ultimately pull together! Q. What made your event UNIQUE

Tiffany. “The pouring rain and tornado watch? Okay that was a surprise but still amusing… We considered not going the traditional wedding route after being together for so many years, but ended up doing it for our moms. To make sure we were keeping it our day we incorporated some silly parts that were a reflection of our personalities: -We were both born in the year of the pig according to the Chinese Zodiac, and it is one of my favorite animals. So we had small touches of that throughout the reception -The caricaturists were so popular it cleared the dance floor. All in all, we wanted it to be a fun time for our guests with great food and great wine. I think we accomplished that.”

Q. Finish this sentence: “One thing I learned from my wedding planning…”

Tiffany. “…is to take each bump with a grain of salt. At the end of the day, it’s about getting married and nothing else. Oh and if I could squeeze in one more learning, pay the extra for a wedding planner. Being a control freak doesn’t help plan a wedding when you’re the bride!” Q. What was your inspiration behind your wedding? Can be anything from a color palette to a location, from a memory to a dress/bouquet/shoes…anything! What motivated you and most influenced your decisions?

Tiffany. “It started with the ring, but quickly snowballed into a Style Me Pretty kind of wedding with the help of Pinterest and Etsy. I really don’t know how people planned weddings before these technologies! Without me knowing it, the central theme because cozy-romantic-vintage. I’m still pinning onto my Pinterest wedding board to this day! http://pinterest.com/wutiffany/3-8-10-12-3/”

Q. The Bride & Bridesmaids Wore

Tiffany. “Lazaro & Jcrew” Q. What was your favorite moment or aspect of the day?

Tiffany. “Believe it or not, the down pouring rain during the ceremony. Just totally unforgettable and funny.” Q. The Proposal

Tiffany. “I was having a stressful time at work and for once we didn’t have any family plans for Easter. So Greg decided to create a “Tiffany Appreciation Day” for me. One of our annual traditions is to walk around the city to look at the blooming magnolia trees. First off, brunch at our favorite local restaurant, a manicure (hint# 1), and a short train ride into the city for our walk. He was being weird and fidgety all day, which only got worse as we sat down at a bench in the commons to rest our feet. 20 minutes later, I was getting antsy, bored, and hungry and suggested we get dinner. Greg said he wanted to sit for a little bit longer so I reluctantly obliged. As I waited, an elderly couple walked by holding hands and I said “how cute is that? I hope that’s us one day.” Everything started happening quickly, but I remembered 3 things: 1) He asked me “so…will you marry me?” like he was asking me if I wanted to get lunch. I said, if that’s his way of asking then it’s a no. 2) He did go down on his knee after for a few seconds, but was really embarrassed. 3) When he opened the ring box, I burst into happy tears, which is unusual because I never cry when I’m happy. This happened for a solid 15 minutes without me saying yes.” Q. The Wedding Cake

Tiffany. Scrumptions. Cupcakes: almond cake with vanilla butter cream and hazelnut cake with chocolate ganache Psst.. if anyone is looking for the amazing Guestbook Tree Tiffany found it through Etsy! www.etsy.com/shop/YourKeepsakeCo

Tiffany…I miss you! I loved all our misc wedding planning emails and wedding craziness so we’ll just have to find some new reasons for you to need me right?! pretty please!! I suppose I’ll settle for working on your album layouts for now … but perhaps I should draw this out so I can keep you longer..mmm..

A note from Tiffany.. “Kristin went above and beyond the call of duty for a photographer. She was my therapist, creative “director”, and vendor guru. For a bride trying to handle it all on my own she was my rock in the whole process.”

6.1.13 Ella + Ed

June 1st, 2013 | Engagements, Weddings

First up for June Brides is gorgeous Ella getting married TODAY 6.1.13!!! Can’t wait to see how Ella’s wedding designing comes together at Regatta Place, Newport RI  Congratulations to Ella + Ed!! {psst..Seriously one of the cutest couples ever!} When asked to describe her wedding wish list this past Sept Ella teased us with the idea of having a “caricature artist during our reception that will double as entertainment in lieu of dancing, and wedding favors for our guests. We also plan on having a DIY Photobooth using a Polaroid camera where guests can then put their pictures in our Guest Book where pages will be pre-titled with things like “For your first anniversary, …” “Name your first child …” etc. and they can put their personal touch to it. We hope to book a Steel Drums Band for our wedding to play relaxing music throughout the night. I love Banangrams so hopefully will somehow incorporate the fun game into our wedding somewhere! I’m thinking of using the letter tiles to spell out our table number signs, and maybe start the Bananagrams game off by spelling Edward and Ella, and have guests come add on words throughout the night. We’re so excited! Can’t wait for you to capture and share in our big day!” oh I can’t WAIT.. we’re on our way guys see you soon!!

Shawna & Daniel :: Oceancliff Resort, Newport RI

May 30th, 2013 | Weddings

Shawna & Dan, were married 7.6.12. That’s right we’re blogging again and  I PROMISE I WILL  get all of the 2012 season up [that is with the help of our incredible new intern - yay!]  They used a simple palette of blues for the wedding colors to  ”complement the ocean venue”, which really was perfect seeing as they wanted a chill relaxed  + fun event for their friends and family to enjoy. The water front wedding was itself perfectly paired considering their first date was on a Boston Harbor Cruise …Shawna noted “a brave choice considering there was no exit strategy if the date wasn’t going well!” Shawna and Dan are just an awesome couple and I loved seeing how everything came together for them this past July!

Q. The Proposal {one of my favorite questions to ask!}

Shawna. “Dan surprised me by proposing on a Friday afternoon (Good Friday coincidentally) in my apartment. He knew I’d be expecting something extravagant like a weekend trip, so he decided to pull one over on me by keeping it low-key. He enlisted my sister-in-law’s help to get me out of the house in order to set up. So while I was painting Easter Eggs with my little nephews, Dan was gathering flowers, champagne, and a photo book that outlined our relationship over the past three years. He even allowed time to pace around the apartment for about an hour and break out in hives before getting down on one knee! Of course, I said yes, and we spent the weekend celebrating with our family and friends. It was perfect – except for the green Easter Egg dye all over my hands!

Q. What was your favorite moment or aspect of the day?

Shawna. “My favorite aspect of the day was first seeing Dan and enjoying a moment to ourselves (to let it all sink in) before climbing aboard the trolley to our cheering wedding party! Other favorites were: my dad walking me down the aisle, my sister’s boyfriend singing lead for the band, and just having all of our family and friends together in one place!”

Q. Finish this sentence: “One thing I learned from my wedding planning…”

Shawna. “Not to leave anything to the last minute. It is better to be stressed a month before the wedding and bored the week of… little things always crop up as the day gets closer!”

Q. What was your inspiration behind your wedding? Can be anything from a color palette to
a location, from a memory to a dress/bouquet/shoes…anything! What motivated you and
most influenced your decisions?

Shawna. “We didn’t have one inspiration that drove our decisions. We just wanted guests to relax, have fun and really enjoy Newport in the summer!”

Q. What made your event UNIQUE

Shawna. “I think our band (The Sugarbabies – They really made our night; Eytan was so professional to work with, and they even learned a bunch of country songs for us! They learned a combination of Zac Brown Band’s ‘Free’ and Van Morrison’s ‘Into the Mystic’ which was a highlight of Dan’s night for sure!) provided a unique feel to our wedding. They were able to keep everyone out on the dance floor all night while incorporating our love of country music into their sets. They also only took one small break while performing for more than 3 full hours! They truly made our wedding standout.”

Congratulations again Shawna & Dan!! It’s been nearly a year and I hope your 1st anniversary is as wonderful celebration of your wedding!

Danielle & Marc :: Belle Mer, Newport RI

March 24th, 2013 | Weddings

I always have so many questions to ask new couples as it’s a way for me to learn about them and their personalities.. but one I like to ask AFTER the weddings happened always is to finish the sentence “One thing I learned from my wedding planning…” ..and this is what Danielle said! “Take a deep breathe….you will always think you are forgetting something….and you are but at the end of the day its all about the bride & groom having fun with great friends and family!” So new couples.. listen to this as that’s exactly what it IS about.. you and your forever! Danielle & Marc married at Belle Mer on 10.10.12 .. and we had such a blast getting to know them and their families and capturing the day!! Take a peak…

Q. What was your inspiration behind your wedding? Can be anything from a color palette to a location, from a memory to a dress/bouquet/shoes…anything! What motivated you and most influenced your decisions?

Danielle. “Loved the feel of being on the ocean and the clean classic feel of the Salon Room – white open airy and romantic. It was all about a crisp clean feeling of the space!”

Q. What was your favorite moment or aspect of the day?

Danielle. “That EVERYONE danced ALL night long – including the bride and groom! It just made it the most perfect celebration!”

One of my FAVORITE questions to ask a couple when we first meet is “how did he propose?” It’s something that can tell you a lot about the couples as well as their relationship ha ha.. so many times you hear the great story the groom plans on how he’ll do it and how it just didn’t work out and they end up struggling to get to his ideal spot so he can propose.. well not Danielle! She was one of those lucky girls to get the perfect proposal surprised on her …no rain, or arguing or messed up GPS here!!

Q. The Proposal

Danielle. “Danielle was working in NYC and Marc said he had to come in for a meeting and would be staying at the Four Seasons. So I checked out of my hotel to meet Marc at the end of my work day. When I called him to tell him I was on my way over he said he was out meeting a friend for coffee but the front desk would have a key for me. After struggling to get in the hotel room I opened the door to find the most spectacular view of Central Park and an aisle of red and white rose petals leading into the room. In the center of the room was a ginormous heart of red and white rose petals and a table with vases of flowers and a bucket of champagne. I of course held the door with my suitcase as I thought I had the wrong room. I called Hello and heard Marc say “Im in here” – sure enough there he was all dressed up in the corner of the room on one knee. Adorable!”

By the way… what you don’t see here through these images is the rain storm behind the camera.. and umbrella’s covering me !! Danielle is a bride to use as the perfect example of NOT letting the weather dictate your happiness on the day of your wedding.. it’s not about the rain or sun.. so just have fun with the day no matter  - it’s still PERFECTION!

Q. The Bride Wore

Danielle. “Olivia Harris with JCrew Belt/ Christian Louboutin shoes”

Q. The Bridesmaids Wore

Danielle. “Jenny Yoo Aiden 16 Way Dress – all worn different”

Q. What made your event UNIQUE

Danielle. “We added a white Dance Floor to the room which we have been told has never been done as there is already hard wood floor in the Belle Mer for a wedding – it really brought the room together perfectly!
We also had the Live Event Painter that was present the entire wedding adding guests into the painting throughout the night – such a special piece of art!”

Q. Colors / Themes of the day

Danielle. “Blk and White with Blush hints with LOTS of candles! Very romantic”

Q. Entertainment & Lighting

Danielle. “Band – Beantown (Wilson Stevens Production)
String Quartet for Ceremony and Cocktail Hour – Anima String Quartet

Ormonde Productions – Lighting/Dancefloor/lanterns”

Q. What was your favorite moment or aspect of the day?

Danielle. “That EVERYONE danced ALL night long – including the bride and groom! It just made it the most perfect celebration!”

Danielle & Marc!! ..How I wish we could do this all again !! I adored you both and the experience working with you over those months… can we please do a take 2?! ha ha Congratulations to you both!!!

..a sweet note from Danielle & Marc.. “Kristin and Jared were just such a pleasure to work with! I knew from the day we met Kristin from her bubbly personality and sense of style she would be perfect for my wedding! I actually dont recall seeing either Kristin or Jared the entire event which was sad however I know that that makes the BEST photographers! Kristin was organized pre-wedding in getting ideas and information regarding the day of schedule, shots we wanted and ideas for us as well. Such a joy to work with!”

Marah & Dan :: Belle Mer, Newport RI

February 1st, 2013 | Weddings

Alright…  Ready – Set – Go !!! I’m back to blogging!! ..and yes yes typically I’d have gone “in order” as I left off beginning of July though I’ve been getting so much Belle Mer LOVE recently with new brides and past brides designing albums that I decided to dedicate the first new posts of the year to BELLE MER!

What better way to start blogging events again then with Marah & Dan’s INSANELY detail filled wedding from August 25, 2012. Marah is one of those super creative and LOVELY brides and I was just dying all year waiting to see how her ideas all came together on their big day – and it was beyond expectations GORGEOUS! .. I’m been secretly dying to blog this wedding for months so without further delay I give you Marah’s planning masterpiece!

How adorable is this Welcome Bag for their guests?! Marah designed this on her own bridal “free-time” ha ha ha like there’s much of that seriously .. it’s the cutest!! I think she should start a little BIZ for my brides :) .. hint hint

These bouquets are amazing, could be partially due to my personal obsession with buttons LOL but check out the color, texture, depth and BUTTON!

Now Marah & Dan’s ceremony was a bit “unconventional” in set up for Belle Mer as they wanted a more casual style and gathered their guests with cocktails and ribbon wands to enjoy more of a cocktail hour style ceremony with only a few front row seats for their moms! So fun .. and QUICK!

Cool detail here is the wine bottle on the right – Marah’s father had purchased the wine the year she was born and saved for the day she married! Loved that fun fact!

Jacqueline & Newton :: Rosecliff Newport, RI

July 21st, 2012 | Weddings

Yes, you did see this wedding posted earlier today by my intern … however, I’m re-blogging this event as there was no way I could pass over such an amazing story… just needed to tell it myself! May 27, 2012 Jackie & Newton married at The Kay Chapel … and then headed off to party the night away at Rosecliff Mansion… but this isn’t just any happy couple… nor was this your “normal wedding planning experience”… Jackie, who is legally blind, designed her entire event by touch. I have to admit I have never been so “touched” to watch a couple as I was on this day, I was moved taking in every glance Newton gave Jackie and every detail I photographed. This is a must SEE event… and I hope that one day Jackie may be able to relive it by sight through her pictures.

I loved this sweet groom the moment I saw him sneaking these glances at his bride.. throughout the day after I would watch and see Newton just smiling at Jackie.. and taking both the day and his new bride in..and then there’s Michelle, taking in every moment and flow of the day for her daughter.. I adored working with Michelle through the planning and witnessing how she helped make Jackie’s vision for her wedding day come to life.

Jackie and Newton have a very fun and adventurous story of how they met THOUSANDS of miles from home.. in Thailand! They had both left their planned career paths and took a chance flying around the world to teach English.. and ended up meeting each other during their 3 years in Thailand. The couple had a slideshow during the reception of images from their childhoods but also relationship together and the adventures they have gone on.. are pretty spectacular :) I personally think their wedding day may have been one of their BEST though!

Jackie had a vision in her mind of a embroidered gown with the “v” detailing in the neckline.. she had her gown customized by the designer to get the all-over embroidery and precise design details she wanted all in one amazing gown. Her shoes were custom designed in Thailand from a dance studio where Jackie & Newton had taken dance classes..something perfectly comfortable to be able to dance the entire NIGHT!!!

Before I go further.. the Ballroom decor.. STUNNING.. it was 40′s GLAMOUR! I walked past the room and literally had to walk back and do a double-take! I’ve in fact never walked into the Rosecliff ballroom and felt like I was literally in an “era” .. it just felt right. Never something, even with my imagination, that I would have actually come up with.. and I was stunned and left standing in awe before I was able to actually SHOOT the room!

Classic. Elegant. Timeless… a vision. That was Newton & Jackie’s wedding design and style.. Congratulations to you BOTH and your wonderful families!

Sarah & John :: Oceancliff Newport, RI

July 12th, 2012 | Weddings

On Friday November 30, 2011 a woman and a man met in NYC through mutual friends. It was love at first sight and since that day they haven’t been apart. This fairy tale was Sarah and John’s! Two years later, in a very romantic get away setting, John popped the question to Sarah which brought them to their September 3, 2011 wedding at the Oceancliff in Newport, RI.

The Bride wore Two dresses – a picture gown – softer with a dramatic back. David’s Bridal
Wedding gown – dramatic with a celedon sash and brooch – Paloma Blanca

Q. What was your favorite moment or aspect of the day?

A. Upstairs in room #7 at Ocean Cliff getting ready and overlooking guests arriving and getting their drinks. They were all dressed up and getting ready to see US get married. It was such a tribute to see how far people came and how much people spent to be in Newport and support us. Truly moving.

The Bridesmaids wore Jenny Yoo celdon colored dressed and the Groom and Groomsmen wore Ralph Lauren jackets, khaki’s, celedon ties, Smith shades from Dino in Newport!

The theme for the day was simple and classic waterfront with creams, greens, golds and some additions of navy for Saturday night formality.

The ladybugs on the cake were in memory of Sarah’s best friend Jenn who passed away. It was their way of having her there for the night!

Guest favors were some sweet treats at the candy bar and pictures from the photobooth!
